Welcome to the Gay side of Disney...and Beyond.
Once a week I will try to post some of the fun and amazing things my friends and I are doing, trips we take, places we visit, and people we meet.
Today, lets talk about the 24 Hour Rock your Disney Side event.

Today, lets talk about the 24 Hour Rock your Disney Side event.
What a day it was, I personally spent 29 hours total on Disney property, but it was an incredibly magical day. Bright and early I woke up and got to the Disneyland Resort at 4:00am. The energy in the crowd was something I have never experienced both at Disney or at any other event. One of the most oddly beautiful yet creatively stunning visuals was about to take place. 6:00am rolls around and a resounding cheer erupted from the thousands of waiting guests, fireworks shoot into the sky, the gates open and in the masses rush. As this was a special day in the parks, there was filming taking place in many areas and on many of the rides in the early morning hours and celebrities were around being escorted from one place to another.
The first (roughly) half of my day was spent with some of the most talented cosplay artists I have ever had the privilege of meeting. Normal Disney rules are strict in regards to costumes for "Adults" (deemed 12 and over) in park, mainly so as not to cause confusion for children as to who is the "real" Princess and who is a guest in costume. For this one day, they lifted the rules and allowed park guests to dress in some of the most incredible costumes I have ever seen. I was personally "Disney Bounding' as Phineas, my boyfriend was dressed as a Jedi, and then we had Aurora (in a blue dress), Belle, Flynn Ryder, The Beast, Kuzco, Jake (from Jake and the Neverland Pirates) and Peter Pan. As such, it turned into an odd game of playing security guard. Since Disney relaxed the rules about costumes, they were strict about taking pictures with children and posing as the in park character. This left us in some very uncomfortable positions of having to tell parents we were not allowed to pose for photos with their children. It also made it awkward when we wanted to take photos of ourselves or each other as we very quickly formed a line of children and adults alike wanting to "meet the princesses". (Side Note: I apologize if I had to tell any of you or your children no for photos)
Any and all negatives aside, being with these incredibly talented people and their amazingly accurate costumes created a magical energy that followed our group throughout the park, but did leave us avoiding certain places in the park (ex. The front of the Castle, or Fantasyland, etc.) as we would be stopped almost non stop for photos. My boyfriend unfortunately had to leave to go to work for a little between 2:00pm and 9:00pm, but I stayed with this great group of people until about 7:00pm where I ran over to California Adventure for a drink with a friend.
Around 10:00pm everyone converged back together, as the park turned to night, the Villains came out. The entertainment everyone was excited for had begun, the energy in the night was electric, a DJ spinning in front of the Castle, another in Tomorrowland, a third and fourth in California Adventure. Everywhere you walked people were in costume, Villains and Heroes mixed and mingled and the locals were there to party. To say it felt like I spent two entirely separate days in the parks is an understatement. The shift in energy I felt between 6:00am when the parks opened and 10:00pm when the night entertainment started was palpable. Lines for meet and greets with some of the rarest villains seen in park exceeded 3 1/2 hours. My friends and I were having an amazing night, and stumbled upon a meet and greet with Jedi Mickey and Princess Leia Minnie! They were so cute and fun!

Over all the whole day was amazing, something I hope Disney does again....but not too soon. It took almost a week for my body to fully recover from the walking, drinking, and general dehydration that came from spending 29 hours at Disneyland!
If you were there, what was your favorite part of the 24 hour day? How long were you able to stay in the park?
